Outdoor First Aid Course
Suitable for those who are professionally involved in the outdoors, or for those who enjoy their activities for leisure.
This certified course can be altered to suit activity groups but it is aimed mainly at Mountaineering clubs, Outdoor instructors, sailing and canoeing groups. The majority of this course will be based in an outdoor environment with some classroom work. Much of the course will be spent dealing with scenarios in a practical manner. This is a continually assessed course with a question paper at the end.

- BLS (Basic Life Support and CPR)
- Treatment of an unconscious casualty
- Examination techniques
- Choking
- Heart attack and angina
- Shock and control of Bleeding
- Asthma, Epilepsy, Diabetes
- Fractures
- Strains/Sprains
- Practical Splinting/Bandaging
- Hypothermia and the effects of heat and cold
- Moving and handling
- Reporting and recording
- What to carry in a first aid kit
The certificate is valid for 3 years
Instructor / Trainee ratio 1: 12 (maximum)
Course Duration : 2 days (16 hours contact time)

Annual Skill Updates
We strongly recommend that First Aiders Undertake yearly refresher training. Highway 2 First Aid runs 3 hour update sessions.
